The Cotopaxi Volcano, one of the highest active volcanoes in the World, with 5.879m a.s.l. is located in the province with the same name, Cotopaxi.

The name of the volcano, according to the dialect of the Cayapa culture means Sweet Neck of the Sun. At its foothills is the Cotopaxi National Park. The captivation of the Andean region with its flora and fauna can be visited by a horseback riding tour.

The two days tour starts in Quito, towards the south, until we arrive at the Hacienda La Alegría. At this hacienda we will learn about its history, meet the owner and know the surroundings. After an acclimatization and a good breakfast, we’ll meet the horse with which we are going to spend the next 48 hours.

Going out of the farm and with direction to Machachi, the point where we are going to start our trip on paved ways, raises and descents. Riding through the high plateaus, observing its exuberant vegetation and the variety in its flora and fauna.

Slowly and in the plains to trot it comes near to a height of 4.200 m.s.n.m. occasionally to do a few stops of rigor to stretch the muscles and to take a refreshment.

In a clear day there will have the opportunity to observe to the volcanoes Cotopaxi, Rumiñahui, Sincholagua and others.

We reach the north zone of the National Park Cotopaxi and it will be possible observe also to Limpiopungo's lagoon. Of there already only a small span is absent up to coming to an inn where will stay overnight.

The next day and after a good breakfast we’ll take the way of the Cotopaxi´s Paramus, another riding experience of four hours more or less, until we go back to the hacienda where our trip started.
